      The New York Times

Hannie Caulder, which begins cruel and comic, gradually becomes gentler and more serious; and by the time its spirit of outrage has subsided into something like elegy, the film has turned into a fairly moving study of what it means to be cursed by having to pursue a mission instead of a life.

      Variety

Welch, with genteel modesty, makes the character for many rather ingratiating though others undoubtedly will find her plain ludicrous.

      Village Voice

The humor isn't much here either despite a trio of classic bad goon performances by Jack Elam, Strother Martin, and Ernest Borgnine. [06 Jul 1972, p.49]

      TV Guide Magazine

Predictable and dull, though sleazy brothers Borgnine, Martin, and Elam are terrific.
