Variety
Cleopatra Jones is a good programmer with the offbeat twist of having a sexy woman detective as the lead character. The script incorporates a slew of action set pieces, capably directed by Jack Starrett. - 70
Chicago Reader
Jack Starrett's 1973 entry in the violent inner-city drug-bust genre is talkier and more subdued than the usual fare, with a surer technical polish. - 70
IGN
If you like the Blaxploitation flicks of the 70s, this is your candy. If you liked Shaft, but thought it was a bit slow, this one has a little more action, and budget, and its logic matches Shaft in Africa (leads come out of nowhere and thugs appear at the unlikeliest of times). - 63
Chicago Sun-Times
The movie is put together in a sort of disjointed way; there are too many characters, and some of them disappear for so long, we forget them. But that doesn't matter much; the idea is to string together scenes that entertain, and Cleopatra Jones does that nicely. - 60
Empire
A demented slice of widescreen right-on action-funk from the blaxsploitation era. - 60
The New York Times
The movie seems to want to be a James Bond sort of adventure in black drag, but it's more reminiscent of Batman. - 25
TV Guide Magazine
A fairly tame, fairly lame blaxploitation footnote, starring drop-dead gorgeous Tamara Dobson and her improbable wardrobe.
